How we got started

Citizens for Second Chances began in 2002 as a way for two families, who had sons charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct, to reach out to others in similar situations. We are primarily a support group for families of those accused in the State of Michigan. What began with just a few parents, with a desire to help others in this situation, has evolved into a support group with a mission to impact legislation in the State of Michigan (see Mission Statement).

We have members from across the state of Michigan. Many in the press and legislature are also aware of us. We have had articles published in the Detroit Free Press, The Detroit News, several local television appearances as well as a spot on MSNBC.

We have some political contacts within the State of Michigan and we network with others across the country that share the same concerns. We operate on donations (voluntary) from our members and the membership is kept confidential. The only names to become public do so at the member's request.

Association with Citizens for Second Chances does not affect an offender's standing in the court system, plea or sentence. Nor does it enhance an inmate's opportunity for parole.
